Mangroves are gravely threatened all over the world. Only our common efforts, nationally and globally can possibly stop the loss of these important coastal forests. In 2005 the initiatives DEEPWAVE e.V. Hamburg, and OMCAR in Tamil Nadu, established a mangrove cultivation project called MANGREEN, (Mangrove Restoration and Ecology in India). As a first step thousands of mangrove seedlings were planted in order to rebuild the natural protection wall. With the MANGREEN project we are helping to solve a global and social problem by imparting to the local inhabitants the importance of mangroves forest protection and their future sustainable use.
