DEEPWAVE and it’s project Mangreen have taken part in the competition of Startsocial e.V. in the year 2009 and have won an advisory grant. From the many participating organizations, one hundred winning teams were established, and these will be accompanied by a team of two coaches, in order to work out a lasting solution to a particular social problem. |

Where the Ocean meets the Forest |

 An exhibition on mangroves at the “Natureum” museum on the lower Elbe River.
In cooperation with DEEPWAVE the “Natureum” museum has been presenting since February 2009 an exhibition on the world of mangroves and their inhabitants, eg: the fast moving mud-skippers, the climbing fish, or the archer fish which catch their prey by ejecting an accurate gob of water.  Nature's value is seldom arithmetically recorded. This will change soon. The financial value of nature is being increasingly researched and calculated. In Peter Hogarth´s study “The biology of mangroves and sea grasses”, he assesses the value of a hectare of mangrove forest with 9.900 USD a year (Page 236). On this basis, a reafforestation of the mangrove area in Palk Bay has a arithmetical value of 495.000 USD. In comparison, a mangrove seedling costs one Euro, and a sponsorship 50 €.
